Composer Commentary

I often compose when a need arises in my church position. My creativity is sparked when I can’t find an interpretation for a new or rarely used hymn. "Oh, Praise the Gracious Power" was created from that need. Other times small motives from a hymn tune run through my mind until I finally have to stop and give attention to those nagging motives by writing them down and fleshing them out. “Noel! Tidings of Comfort and Joy" resulted from one of these persistent motivic episodes.
