Composer Commentary

I was inspired to write these arrangements by the number of wonderful new hymn tunes in Evangelical Lutheran Worship and wanting to familiarize congregations with them. I was especially drawn to several that have nature and creation as a theme. I wrote the arrangement on GOOD SOIL ("Lord, Let My Heart Be Good Soil"), after becoming active in a church garden ministry and dedicated it in gratitude to them. I wrote the arrangement HARVEST GIFTS ("God, Whose Farm is All Creation"), after becoming friends with a Wisconsin farm family. From my experiencing their daily life operating a farm, I grew to appreciate the labor required to nurture crops and how God is the ultimate farmer of creation. I have tried to write interesting arrangements that utilize the entire octave range of a piano and utilize a variety of styles.
