First published in 1965, this superb setting of EIN FESTE BURG is a definitive work by a master composer. David Johnson's treatment of the chorale melody is imaginative and well controlled. Scored for manuals only with optional pedals, this music will succeed on a variety of keyboards. This piece is a superb example of counterpoint, form, and a classically lean texture which comes together in music that sounds much bigger than it appears. While especially useful for Reformation Day celebrations, consider this an excellent addition to a recital or concert program.
