This anthem for SATB voices, organ, optional brass quartet (or quintet) timpani and four handbells also has an optional part for the assembly. The anthem has two texts by Herbert Brokering: "Allleluia! Jesus Is Risen!" or “Earth and All Stars!” The accompaniment provides a fresh undergirding to the texts. The anthem may be effectively sung with only organ accompaniment or with the addition of any of the optional instruments.

Composer Commentary

My original setting of the hymn tune EARTH AND ALL STARS only included the text to “Earth and All Stars!” I later uncovered Brokering’s text “Alleluia! Jesus Is Risen!” paired to the same tune in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. The addition of the Easter text “Alleluia! Jesus Is Risen!” called for brass, timpani, and handbells; however, the anthem may be effectively sung with only organ accompaniment or with the addition of any of the optional instruments. The rousing refrain cries out for a bold, robust declaration of the text.
