The children's choir sings the questions and adults of the congregation sing the answers to underscore the important role of adults as teachers and faith-nurturers for the children who grow up in the church community.

Composer Commentary

I wrote this arrangement for my own church, First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, California. A member of our congregation pointed this hymn out to me and suggested that I create an arrangement where the children sing the questions and the adults in the congregation sing the answers. The idea was to illustrate the role of adults in the church as faith nurturers and teachers. I tried to remain true to the original hymn text and tune, as I set the tune with more current-sounding harmonies and modified the refrain by adding a 4/4 measure at the end. Then I added a trumpet part which is optional, but adds a lot to the arrangement.
