Augsburg Fortress

A standard repertoire work for church choirs, this motet for SATB voices, organ, and string bass has been a perennial favorite since its original publication in October of 1970. Heinz Werner Zimmerman (1930-2022) was a prize winning German composer whose work focused on sacred music, much of which is in a style exuberantly influenced by jazz. This motet, along with an equally delightful setting of Psalm 23, relies on the colorful sound of a pizzicato string bass.
