David Cherwien breathes new life into this cherished hymn arranged in a vibrant setting for SATB choir with assembly and opt. C instrument.  The second stanza features a tender choral setting that provides a departure from the melody, the choir and congregation sing in canon on stanza three, and dynamic choral writing highlights the fiery text of stanza four. Crafted for ecumenical gatherings, the text includes a fifth stanza as well; the piece concludes with an uplifting S/A descant above the congregation melody.
